WHO WE ARE?

Estella Byrd Whitman Wellness and Community Resource Center (EBWW) is a 501(c)(3) a non-profit agency, established to be a medical clinic for the community of West Ocala and surrounding communities. The center currently offers primary health care for low-income citizens and a range of other services for the purpose of improving their quality of life by promoting healthy lifestyle changes so that they can become self-sufficient, without regard to health insurance status or ability to pay for care in an area known for its vast number of healthcare disparities.  and the lowest median household income in Ocala.

West Ocala residents often use the emergency rooms at our local hospitals for their Primary Care. The presence of a neighborhood medical clinic in the area will allow pedestrian and non-motorized access to care and, at the same time relieve the hospitals of many non-emergent and routine cases.

The organization was birthed from a promise made to the grandmother of Carolyn Adams, Ms. Estella Byrd Whitman.  With a vision in mind and a promise in heart, the founders Arthur and Carolyn Adams along with co-founder Dr. Pamela Lewin set out on the journey of establishing a medical home in West Ocala.

While Mr. Adams passed away in 2013, his partners in the quest pushed onward.  Through the diligence of the founders, generous donations from local benefactors and the support of city officials, The Estella Byrd Whitman Wellness and Community Resource Center opened its doors in 2018.

Estella Byrd Whitman is honored to fight this fight alongside its many community partners including Fire Rescue, City of Ocala, The Community Foundation, Marion County Hospital District to name a few.

While there remains much work to do, the health center is proud of its accomplishments thus far.
